Terms of use and legal disclaimer

Short version: we research carefully and cite official sources, but this site is general information. You're responsible for checking the rules that apply to you with the government and a licensed professional before you act.

1. Agreement to these terms

These Terms of Use govern your use of startllcregistration.com and every page on it (the "site"), published by Start LLC Registration ("we", "us"). By reading or using the site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

2. Legal disclaimer: not legal, tax or immigration advice

Everything on this site, including state guides, fee tables, cost estimates, tax explanations, guides for non-US residents, reviews, comparisons, blog posts, FAQs and any summary an AI tool produces from our pages, is general educational information only. It is not legal advice, tax advice, accounting advice, financial or investment advice, or immigration advice. It is not tailored to your facts.

Start LLC Registration is an independent publisher. We are not a law firm, not a CPA firm, not a registered agent, not a formation service and not a government agency, and we aren't affiliated with any Secretary of State, the IRS, FinCEN, USCIS or any other agency. Reading the site, emailing us or using any link on it does not create an attorney-client, accountant-client, fiduciary or other professional relationship.

Business formation, taxes, beneficial ownership reporting, banking rules, sanctions and immigration rules are complex, change often and depend on your circumstances, including where you live, your citizenship, where your business operates and how it earns money. Mistakes can lead to penalties (some IRS penalties start at $25,000), loss of good standing, dissolution of your company, denied bank accounts, tax liability in more than one country or immigration consequences. Always get advice from a licensed attorney, CPA or enrolled agent in the relevant jurisdiction before you file, sign, pay or rely on anything you read here.

3. Accuracy and your duty to verify

We do our best to keep up with all regulations. We take facts from official sources such as state filing offices, statutes, IRS.gov and FinCEN.gov, we list those sources, and we show the date we last checked them. See our methodology. Even so, agencies change fees, forms, deadlines and procedures with little or no notice, sources sometimes conflict, and we can make mistakes. Some figures are marked unconfirmed.

You alone are responsible for confirming every fee, form, deadline, eligibility rule and legal or tax requirement with the official agency before acting, and for making sure your business is formed, operated, taxed and reported properly and legally. If you find an error, please tell us at [email protected] so we can fix it.

4. Visitors outside the United States

Our guides for non-US residents explain US federal and state rules as we understand them. They don't cover the laws of your home country. Owning a US company can create tax, reporting, currency-control, exchange-control or licensing obligations where you live, and it doesn't give you any right to live or work in the United States. US sanctions laws (administered by the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control) can prohibit some people and countries from forming or using US companies, bank accounts and services. You're responsible for complying with the laws of every country that applies to you. Talk to a qualified professional in your country and, where relevant, a US immigration attorney.

5. Third-party services and affiliate links

The site links to government websites and to private companies such as formation services, registered agents, banks and payment providers. We don't control those sites, and we aren't responsible for their content, prices, privacy practices, service quality, approvals, delays, refunds or anything they do or fail to do. Any purchase is a contract between you and that company. Some links earn us a commission at no extra cost to you, and that never changes the government fees we publish. See our affiliate disclosure. Reviews and rankings reflect our research and opinion on the date shown. They aren't guarantees, and customer experiences we quote are individual reports, not verified facts about every customer.

6. No warranties

The site and all content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows. We don't promise that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of harmful components.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Start LLC Registration and its owners, writers, editors and contractors will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any lost profits, lost revenue, lost data, government or IRS penalties, interest, fees, taxes, rejected filings, denied accounts, business interruption or legal costs, arising from or related to your use of, or reliance on, the site or any third-party service it mentions, even if we were told such damages were possible. If we are found liable despite this section, our total liability for all claims combined is limited to one hundred US dollars (US $100). Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

8. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Start LLC Registration and its owners, writers, editors and contractors from any claims, losses, liabilities, penalties and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the site, your reliance on its content, your business decisions or filings, or your violation of these terms or of any law.

9. Content and permitted use

You may read, share links to and quote brief excerpts from the site with attribution and a link to the page. You may not copy or republish substantial parts of the site, scrape it to build a competing product or remove our source credits. Government data we cite stays in the public domain.

10. Changes, severability and contact

We may update these terms at any time by posting a new version on this page with a new "last updated" date. Continued use of the site means you accept the updated terms. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Questions or corrections: [email protected].
