About Start LLC Registration

An independent field guide to LLC rules in all 50 states and DC.

Forming an LLC is simple in theory and fiddly in practice. Every state names its forms differently, charges different fees, and sets different deadlines, and the information is scattered across dozens of government websites. Start LLC Registration puts it in one place, with a source link beside every figure.

What we publish

  • 51 state guides covering the formation document, filing fee, processing times, registered agent rules, annual reports, taxes and publication rules.
  • Six topic pages per state: cost, registered agent, annual report, name search, dissolution and foreign registration.
  • State-by-state tables such as LLC cost by state and annual report deadlines.
  • Service comparisons such as Bizee vs Northwest and the best LLC services, built on each provider's published prices.

Our standards

Every state figure comes from the state's filing office, fee schedule or statute, and every state page lists those sources with the date we last checked them. The current data set was checked on November 1, 2026. When we can't confirm a number, we label it unconfirmed instead of guessing. The full process is on our methodology page.

We tell you when filing directly with the state is the cheaper route, and every state guide links to the official portal so you can do it yourself.

How we're funded

Some links to formation services pay us a commission if you buy. That's how the site stays free. Commissions never change the state fees we publish or the order of our rankings. Details are in our affiliate disclosure.

Contact and corrections

Spotted an outdated fee or have a question? Email [email protected]. Corrections get re-checked against the state source and dated on the page.

What we're not

We're not a law firm, an accounting firm or a government agency, and nothing here is legal or tax advice. For decisions with real legal or tax consequences, talk to a licensed attorney or CPA in your state.
